National Osteoporosis Month

This month of May is National Osteoporosis Month, dedicated to spreading awareness and prevention for osteoporosis. 

Osteoporosis affects 54 million Americans, and is responsible for 2 million broken bones in the U.S. every year. The National Osteoporosis Foundation reports that, "osteoporosis-related bone breaks costs patients, their families, and the healthcare system $19 billion annually."

Happy World Health Day!

Today is World Health Day, which celebrates the founding of the World Health Organization in 1948. The theme of World Health Day for 2015 is Food Safety.

The World Health Organization reports that an estimated 2 million people die annually due to unsafe food; and America is not immune to this. CNN says that the number of Americans that are becoming sick or dying from contaminated foods has increased 44% since last year. CNN cites "tainted cantaloupe, unsafe mangoes, meat, and the peanut butter recall," as unsafe foods that have been integrated into our diets in the past.

There's no doubt about it: our days are busy, and they seem to only keep getting busier! 

To free up our hectic schedules, we can sometimes cut corners on our health in attempts to give us more time in the day. These shortcuts can be dangerous, however, and they always catch up with us. When we skip breakfast to sleep in, we damage our metabolism. When we skip flossing before bed, we increase levels of bacteria in our mouth.
