"I'm taking a mental health day!"
We've all said it, or wished we had, or heard a co-worker say it...when taking an unscheduled day off. And a change of pace, and scene, really can have restorative benefits.
But what if that's not enough?
Today is World Mental Health Day...the day we take time out to bring heightened awareness to the need to talk to a doctor, psychologist or psychiatrist, to get help when battling depression or many other illnesses which can make day-to-day life difficult.
If that's you, please take a moment today to reach out and make a doctor's appointment, or enlist a loved one to help you make that appointment. Maybe it's a loved one instead who needs some help, and your encouragement can help them realize that there's no reason to feel embarrassed or ashamed at seeking or needing medical advice.
Anyone can get sick, and fortunately, there's something that can be done to get better and feel better. We all need help to get by in this world, and for those for you who are fighting depression, panicky feelings, or some other kind of mental problem: know that it really is possible for you to feel better.
If you suspect depression is the issue, for yourself or a loved one, there's a new website where you can get screened anonymously or locate a mental health screening site near you: http://www.HelpYourselfHelpOthers.org.
Maybe you've already been diagnosed with depression or another mental illness. One way CareSync can help is a new feature of our medical records and care coordination app which allows patients to track their moods, both through emoticons covering a wide range of emotions, and through a journal in which patients and caregivers can take note of how things are going on a daily or other routine basis.
Tracking your moods between doctor's appointments, just like keeping a diet journal, can help you understand what works best for your health and it can also help the doctor understand: because your emoticon and journal entries will be right there in the same place with your medical records, in the CareSync app, which you can show to any doctors you choose, at any time you choose.
Our app is free (download it from the App Store or Google Play) but especially when your plate is already full, you may prefer CareSync Plus, our service with health assistants who pull together all your medical records for a one-time fee of $99, or keep everything updated for an annual fee of $199, including help with making and remembering doctor's appointments.
