The World Health Organization defines adherence to long-term therapy as "the extent to which a person's behavior - taking medication, following a diet, and/or executing lifestyle changes - corresponds with agreed recommendations from a healthcare provider." Healthcare Spending Growth Projected Through 2025

According to data released in February, total health spending for 2016 is projected to have reached nearly $3.4 trillion. National health expenditure growth is expected to average 5.6 percent annually over 2016-2025 and represent 19.9 percent of gross domestic product by 2025. And by 2025, it's projected that 47 percent of national health spending will be financed by federal, state, and local governments.
