The majority of Americans are happy with the care they receive from their doctors. According to a survey from the Harvard School of Public Health, 87% of patients rate the care they received from their primary physician as excellent (43%) or good (44%). That’s higher than their ratings for emergency room treatment (72%), urgent care (75%), or overnight hospitalization (81%). 

Patient satisfaction surveys, like the one used in the Harvard study, are a good tool to learn what patients think about the healthcare they receive, but they don’t necessarily lead to improved care, and they don’t reveal much about the qualities patients are actually looking for in a doctor.
