CareSync Changes Behavior

Patient Engagement is the biggest buzzword in healthcare right now, but many people aren't sure what it is, and no one is absolutely certain how to make it happen. As we create CareSync, our team is constantly looking for ways to get people proactively involved in their care, and I had a chance to test it out personally over the last few days.

Our teenage son loves anything computer- or game-related, but hasn't shown much interest in using CareSync on his own. He's been blessed with excellent health and is busy with other things, so we didn't think about it until Friday, when he had his wisdom teeth removed. CareSync made a big impact on our experience:

My husband and I communicated with tasks tagged to the Appintment, and we were able to send the X-rays and recommendations to the doctors so easily. Instructions for the morning popped up in our email & devices.


They came home with a bunch of prescriptions. I entered the Medications and set reminders for them. There was one pre-op med (Valium! We didn't get Valium when we had our teeth out!), an antibiotic (3x/day), and two pain meds to take as needed. This is where the miracle happened: We left on Saturday for a few hours, and the kid called and said, "Mom, I'm taking Amoxicillin & Ibuprofen. Make sure you put it in CareSync." He even started using the app on his Android.


There were two pages of instructions, different for each day, so I created Tasks for each day (so we don't have to see Sunday/Monday tasks on Saturday), and a Task for each day's pain levels (Pain Scales and more measurementss will be released this summer). The doctor called to see how he was doing, and I was able to answer his questions about pain, meds, and even when he last rinsed.

Amazingly, he got home around 11:00 am, and I completed the appointment and clicked the Request Records button. They arrived before 2:00 pm!

The changes in healthcare give us some incredible technology & highly specialized providers, but the family doc who managed our care is long gone. It's time to find new solutions to manage our own care, and this weekend gave us a first-hand look at being a confident, engaged family.

Now if I could just find a solution for his messy room...
