Waking up is hard. Hitting that snooze button for the seventh time always seems so much easier than hopping up out of bed and getting started on the day.
But, as the days of summer vacation are wrapping up, it's time to start focusing less on the lazy mornings, and more around routines and being in control of your day.
Here are a few things you can do to help jump start your mind and body as soon as you wake up in the morning. We find that doing these little things leave us with a big skip in our step.
1. Start the morning with a stretch. Do a couple of easy stretches to get your blood flowing and to "wake up" your body. The shoulder and neck stretch and the hamstring stretch are a couple of stretches that help your body recover from a nice slumber.
2. Drink some water before you eat your breakfast. After you sleep for 6-8 hours, your body needs to be replinished. Reward it by having a tall glass of water to rehydrate yourself.
3. Eat a healthy breakfast. As hectic as mornings tend to get, never skip breakfast. This first meal of the day it reves up your metabolism. Eating a healthy, well-balanced breakfast helps limit the amount of calories you eat throuhout the rest of the day, as well.
4. A.M. workout. Fitting your workout into your morning routine can work wonders for your mind and body. Your blood starts flowing and your metabolism kicks in, giving you a great wave of energy and making the rest of your day better. Put the workout on your calendar and just make it happen. It's a lot easier to find excuses once you're dealing with the day!
Getting a good night's rest, and following these little tips will help you begin you day less groggy and hopefully, a little more happy. Here's to a healthy start to your day!
