A 2012 study done by the Pew Research Center’s Internet and American Life Project shows that men represent nearly 45% of all family caregivers.
That number in on the rise for a number of reasons, including the current state of our economy, changing gender expectations, and longer life expectancies.
According to a 2012 study done by Bowling Green State University, men deal with caregiver stress more successfully than women.
The study’s lead author, associate professor I-Fen Lin, stated “We found that men seem better at dealing with caregiver stress because they take a ‘block and tackle’ approach to tasks, they complete a caregiving task and move on to the next thing,”
On the other hand, the same study showed that men are pretty reluctant to ask for help. With the rise in the number of male caregivers the number of men seeking resources to help them in their journey of caregiving is trending up.
